Beautiful 1961 Uncirculated 7-Coin Mint Set from the South African Mint

This a scarce mint set of uncirculated South African coins from the South African Mint (SAM), known worldwide for the quality of its coinage. It includes 2 copper coins (1/2 cent & 1 cent) and 5 silver coins (2 and 1/2 cent, 5 cent, 10 cent, 20 cent, 50 cent pieces). The silver coins are 0.500 fineness or 50% pure silver. The silver coins are toned and have not been cleaned. They are in the original blue leatherette box, with brass hinges and silk lining. Only 26,000 of these sets were made; a very low mintage for a country as big as South Africa. The 50-cent piece has the familiar springbok antelope design found on the silver and gold Krugerrands. The boxed set is about 9.5 oz in weight.
