Very Rare 1894 The Story of the Commonweal (1894 1st edition) By Henry Vincent.

Pub by W.B. Conkey, 1894, 1st Edition. Very scarce. NOT exLib. Good condition original softcover in faded, worn & wrinkled pictorial wraps.

Includes white club fabric sash in interior cover. Even more rare.

Spine area present but heavily worn. Internally binding is tender in a number of places but complete and essentially sound. Illustrated in b&w. Subject matter concerns the first significant protest march on Washington D.C., including "Coxey's Army," in 1894. Farmers & blue collar workers were protesting the widespread unemployment caused by what became known as the "Panic of 1892-1896," which proved to be the worst recession/depression in U.S. history up to that time. The object of the march was to pressure the government for passage of a jobs bill, to include the building of roads & other public works, along with the adoption of a paper currency economic model. 247pp
