Max Oertz – his name makes the eyes of classic yacht enthusiasts sparkle. The one from Neustadt/Holstein became world-famous. He was a born naval architect and became known through the impressive schooner yachts "Meteor" and "Germania," which he designed for Emperor Wilhelm II and Gustav Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach. Furthermore, more than 450 ships and yachts were built at his shipyard. Many of the works he perfected have left their mark on yachting history.

However, yacht construction was only one aspect of his work. In 1909, he made a big splash as an aircraft designer. Max Oertz developed the first aerodynamic, sealed aircraft fuselage. The seaplanes he developed for the Imperial Navy were the first flying boats with self-stabilizing hulls. Max Oertz was awarded a doctorate in engineering for his outstanding contributions to aircraft manufacturing.
