Lot of Vintage Japanese Traditional Kokeshi Doll & 3 Mailer Dolls Historically Significant Folk Art
This listing is for one 6" Traditional Kokeshi Doll and three 4" Mailer Dolls. This type of Kokeshi mailer doll was once a very popular item and a fun way to roll notes and mail messages to a friend instead of using a yet-to-be-developed postcard. These were collected by family and children touring throughout Japan shortly after WWII.
They are made from a single piece of hollowed-out wood and designed to contain a personal note that is accessible after unscrewing the bottom.
They retain their original craft/workmanship, show normal signs of wear and developed patina from age. Two of the mailer dolls are missing the original bottoms. *More Vtg Japan Wooden Dolls are available, please check my other listings:)
