We've just received a new shipment of incredibly rare wood, so I've made something right away.
Among Yakusugi cedar, the "most valuable parts" are known as "瘤 (kobu)" or burls. These are the parts where the surface of the wood has a knot-like swelling, found on Yakusugi cedar trees that are over a thousand years old. The grain is extremely complex and beautiful, and it often displays "杢 (moku)" or figure, making it highly prized for ornaments and crafts.
I made this using precious wood that I negotiated for years to obtain.
