Hand Forged Fish Eel Spear Collectible Fishing Trident Tool

Handmade
forged piece from the late 1880s this was used to harvest spawning runs of
salmon from the northern rivers of New York up to Maine. The family would pack
up and travel north following the spawning runs selling their catches and preserving
the catch to return and sell in Pa.

It features the shorter "barbs that allowed them to flip or toss speared fish
up on the river bank to be dispatched and processed.

The original wood handle has been replaced at some point, the original hardware
is awesome in amazing condition as you can see in the pictures

One of a kind piece with a bit of interesting history as these once common
practices died out in the early 20s and 30 as over fishing had greatly reduced
the once great runs of fish.
