Open to offers while I continue to research the history of this item, which I acquired at auction from the estate of a significant collector of Chinese antiques (Beverly Jackson, Santa Barbara, CA).
The larger piece is antique or vintage Chinese—likely Republic period. It is a heavily decorated, 18” enameled porcelain charger featuring the image of an emperor wearing robes embroidered with dragons, and seated on a raised dais over a tiger (or tiger skin?), all on a geometric floral carpet. The plate is decorated in blossoms, dragons, phoenix, and other fiery, mythical animals. A rare and amazing addition to any chinoiserie-inspired Grandmillennial design.
The 4-character red back stamp is unfamiliar to me.
There is a 1/4” chip and crack descending from the chip. Please see all photos!
Also pictured is a 10” x 4” bowl from the same estate collection, provenance unknown, depicting a scene of individuals in discussion with typical symbolic objects.
