About Molas :
The Mola originated in Panama. Mola is a Kuna Indian word that means blouse. The process of making a Mola is a layering technique. The folk artist begins with only 2 layers (2-layer Molas are fairly common and less valuable). After finishing the hand work on two layers the bottom layer is then cut down and the raw edges turned under and sometimes stitched down before a 3rd layer and then a 4th or 5th layer is added.
