This is a beautiful late Victorian silver-plated bridal basket made by Meriden Britannia Co. The piece features an ornate swing handle with raised floral and scroll detail, a deep oval bowl, and elaborate Aesthetic Movement geometric engraving around the interior. A beaded raised rim and pedestal base complete the classic Meriden design.
Underside is stamped with the early Meriden Britannia hallmark, reading "MERIDEN BRIT'A CO" in a circular mark with the model number "1865". This abbreviated BRIT'A form was used during the late 1870s–mid 1880s and helps date the basket to around 1878–1887.
CONDITION
Good antique condition consistent with age. Some typical surface wear, light scratches to the interior from use, and minor expected age patina. Handle operates properly and stands securely. Please examine all pictures very carefully as they are part of item description as well.
