This is a beautiful Paperweight / Bookend/ Figurine in the form of sweet Scottie dog.
Measurements: 5 ¾" tall, 7 ½" long (from nose to tail), 3 ½" wide
Weighs approximately 2 lbs., 3 oz.
Made of substantial bronze-clad plaster and boast a wonderful amount of detail.
It is electroplated in a process called bronze-cladding. This was a meticulous and lengthy process.
The plaster cast was coated in a layer of hot wax to seal the surface and then sprayed with a coat of electrically conductive material like graphite.
The mold was then attached to a cathode and suspended in the plating solution tank; it could take up to three days for the plating to be completely finished.
A tell-tale identifier of bronze-clad pieces is often an indentation on the underside of the casting.
This Scottie has a beautiful, dark patina while some light verdigris has worked its way into the deeper detail, giving it a wonderful richness and depth.
