These unique earrings are made from Mahogany Obsidian Needles found in Lassen Park, California.
Mt. Lassen erupted in May of 1915 and these needles were formed as the liquid lava found it's way into crevices in the earth's surface and then solidified. After digging each one up from the pockets they laid in, they were tumbled to smooth the rough edges and then made into these earrings. (See the last photo for the story of how these "needles" are formed).
Besides the Mahogany Obsidian Needles, 8mm Black Obsidian beads sit just above them, also added are glittery gold beads, and posts They are longer and thinner in comparison to other Obsidian needles, so to find them whole and matched almost perfectly is also rare. They measure 3.5" in length.
