Ok, so this is a tricky one. But trust me, I'm a book collector. The true first printing of The God of Small Things can be identified by the paper glued to the cloth front and back and the insertion of the first page. There's the repeated motif that echoes the front and back cover on those pages.. Also, before 2000, Random House indicated a 1st edition with a # line starting with 2 and underneath that would be the FIrst Edition slug.
Book in very good condition. Small crease to top front jacket and crease to top cloth spine. There are no other defects. Book has not been read and is clean and tight.
Ebay has a copy for $5.31, but it's published by Harper. The true 1st was published by RH. The $9.79 copy has remainder mark. The $19.00 is not a real 1st. Look at the pics. There's no internal motif. The $19.99 is NOT a 1st. Look at the copyright page. IThe $31.45 copy is iffy since there are no pics. The $45 doesn't have the motif. Several copies on Abebooks and Biblio.
