Brutal and merciless! When the barbarian Attila the Hun's army approaches Rome, the heroic deeds of a single warrior save the cultural capital from crisis!
In 450 AD, shortly after the Roman Empire made Christianity its state religion, the empire was divided into East and West, with the Eastern Roman Empire, which had its capital in Constantinople, seeking independence from the Roman Emperor. The weakening of the empire immediately became an opportunity for the pagan tribes of the Near East, especially Attila (Jack Palance), the king of the Huns, who at the time led a ferocious army and swept across Asia. He gathered various pagan peoples to form a large army and invaded Europe, aiming to conquer Rome. Attila's army, with its skull flag, captures Roman centurion Marcian (Jeff Chandler) in a village. Marcian had been given the mission by the Emperor to persuade Emperor Theodosius to abandon his plans for independence.
The second CinemaScope film from Universal Pictures. A grand and majestic story set against the backdrop of the era when the Roman Empire was divided, taking its material from the European expedition of Attila the Hun and his vassals. Centered on the passionate ambition of Attila, who burns with the desire to conquer Rome, the film depicts the romance between a young centurion and the Emperor's sister. Directed by Douglas Sirk, a master of melodrama.
*This work was filmed in CinemaScope, but the existing master is in a 4:3 letterbox format, so black bars will appear on the top, bottom, left, and right when played on a TV monitor. Please be aware of this.
