Wow! Is all I can say looking at the stellate configuration of this ikaite from the Olanitsa River, Murmansk Oblast, Russia. This is a seriously cool piece of glendonite! She is 44 g and 1.7 inches diameter.

Ikaite is a rare, unstable mineral form of calcium carbonate with the chemical formula \(CaCO_{3}\cdotp 6H_{2}O\). It forms in cold, saline environments such as sea ice, deep marine sediments, and cold, saline lakes, but quickly transforms into more stable calcite when exposed to warmer conditions or lower concentrations of certain ions like phosphate. Ikaite is also known as glendonite when it occurs as a calcified pseudomorph after the ikaite crystal in sedimentary rock.
