Examination of several games, tournaments and notable players surrounding the infamous 1880 chess conference and competition. With illustrations and diagrams. Mild rubbing/scuffing to jacket with shelf wear around the edges. Some faint creases and waviness in places on jacket. Boards are straight and clean but with corners bumped and front joint cracked. Front hinge faintly split as well, though binding elsewhere remains fairly strong. Some underlining/circling and margin notes in pencil throughout. Spotty staining to outer edges of text block.
