A 26 x 38 in handmade painting.
This painting was a way of merging my story and my artwork together. It wasn’t until Covid that I put on my first bandana in public. All I felt was this weird and nervous feeling when I went out. Even with the mask mandate and other people wearing bandana masks, I still got stares from some white people as if they didn’t see their people wearing one. Once school rolled around, I was in painting class thinking of what I could paint about. This topic was fresh on my mind, and I let all that emotion out on the canvas. The background symbol is an Adinkra symbol that stands for safety. Something that I nor most Black people I’ve talked to, have felt in this country.
