Joyce Combs was born in southwestern Oklahoma, and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Oklahoma State University. The diverse materials Joyce uses to produce the weathered painting surfaces in her work include collage, enamel, oil washes, acrylics, inks, oils pastels, and charcoal. She stains, hand rubs, waxes, scrapes and varnished her work, developing a unique richness of color and texture, sometimes resembling the antiquity of old walls.
