This beautiful doll of Empress Josephine features a long, red velvet embellished and fur trimmed robe. Her underdress is an ivory satin accented with gold and silver thread, sequins and seed beads. She has lace at the collar. Her back gold sticker label reads "Copyright Geo. Borgfeldt Corp, New York NY 10003, Made in Japan". She has a bisque porcelain head, lower arms and lower legs. Her molded gray hair is styled in a top bun. She wears a beaded necklace. Comes with a doll stand.
The Borgfeldt doll company operated from 1881 to 1959. I estimate this piece is post-World War II, probably dating from the mid 1950s.
She stands approx 17 inches.
The physical condition is as shown in the photographs. The bisque is free of chips or cracks. Her ivory satin clothing has some stain spots, probably due to age and not being stored properly. No foul/pet/smoke odors.
