He is the son of the master Kikusui Sakurai, and many shogi fans know that he is a master craftsman of koma (shogi pieces) for two generations. Tousui's pieces are used in many title matches, including the Meijin match. He carefully selects high-quality boxwood, and the quality and feel of the pieces are both excellent.
There is no stagnation of the engraving knife, and the sharpness is good, so it is truly a work of art. In recent years, Tousui's works are mainly [Moriage koma] and [Hori-ume], and [carved pieces] are rare because only a small number of collectors let them go.
